October 2010. Second round of the cup. A sold-out Bieberer Berg stadium – and an evening when Offenbach believed in the impossible.
Dortmund arrived as the overwhelming favorite, but the Kickers threw themselves into every challenge, defended with full passion and kept the Bundesliga top club at 0-0 for over 120 nerve-wracking minutes.
Dortmund pressed relentlessly for the decisive goal. But Robert Wulnikowski proved unbeatable. The Offenbach goalkeeper kept his team in the game with spectacular saves and ultimately became the hero in the penalty shootout.
Wulnikowski made saves against Lucas Barrios and Robert Lewandowski. Then Sead Mehic stepped up – and converted the decisive penalty.
4:2. The upset was complete.
The underdog had defeated the overwhelming favorite. Bieberer Berg erupted – and an entire city celebrated a cup victory night for the ages.
Passion. Faith. Cup madness.
